Yes, you asses, I say daddy.
I need to get that journal of hate off of my page before my dad's birthday, so a new entry the day after the first is what everyone receives since my dad's birthday is tomorrow. Wish him a happy thirty-ninth, boys and girls! He deserves it even if he can be a total ass sometimes! What parent isn't? In any case, my dad's gift won't be a surprise to him since my sister and I couldn't come up with anything good. He wanted this really nice Casio watch, yes, I got my watch obsession from him, so my sister and I bought it for him and got him one of those musical cards. My sister has it, and I can't remember exactly what it says, but it teases about how the music he grew up to was classical music. It's cute and funny, and it's something he would enjoy, but the card my sister and I got for him for Father's day was better. It said something along the lines of how he deserved a tropical vacation for the day, but all we could afford was a little umbrella. He thought it was funny. Then we gave him the Jurassic Park series for that. I know most of you don't actually care, but this is my journal and I'll put what I like here.
In the next order of business, I've not had the inspiration to write lately with all the stress, so I took a break and started reading manga instead. I figured, since I've got nothing more interesting to write about in my journal, I would give my opinion on a few that I've bought and read in the past week or two. I've been mostly reading boy love lately, so I'll start with that first.
Boy LoveBlack Knight was one of my favorite series, so I'll start with that. It's currently four volumes long, but it's unfinished at the moment. It's got a lot of technical jargon in it about the events going on during the story, which can sometimes make it a slow read, but the story, taking place in a medieval era, is really well done. It definately helps that the artwork is so gorgeous. I'm bad at explaining this type of thing, but if any of you like adorable princes, hot knights, weird bandits, goofy kings, or just medieval eras in general, which I do, I suggest going to pick this series up, at least to see the artwork. Oh, warning to all, by the way; Black Knight is published by Blu, so expect man-sex, though there isn't much of it yet. This warning is only for those unfamiliar with Blu if the term "Boy Love" wasn't noticed.
Vassalord is another good one, but it's lighter and more fluff with vampires and cyborg vampires and a menagerie of other very odd beings. There are only two volumes in that so far, but I think there will be a third coming out soon. Also, since Vassalord is published by TokyoPop, there isn't any explicit sex.
Silver Diamond is another series published by TokyoPop with hinting of fluff and the like. It's actually really cute and about a boy who is really good with plants who practically has a jungle growing around his house, of which has a portal in it to another world that three males fall through. The story gets more complicated from there, but it's still pretty cute for only being four volumes so far.
Junjo Romantica is pretty popular as far as boy love manga go; it's even been made into two seasons of anime. It's about three couples, identified by Romantica, Egoist, and Terrorist. At one point or another, the characters bump into one another from different couples, which is how they're connected in the first place, but it basically just tells their stories about how issues keep them apart and they overcome them. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but I adore the series, both anime and manga. Once again, this one is published by Blu, so expect man-sex. There are nine volumes, ten is coming out in August, and I think it's still ongoing after that.
As far as recommendations, I recommend all of these so far.
I'll leave you all with those for now and go on to some Shounen and Shoujo for those of you not into the boy love types.
ShoujoFruits Basket is the first that comes to mind. It may be highly popular, but it is for good reason. With a family cursed by spirits of the Zodiac and a girl who moves in after they find her in a tent, chaos is a constant thing throughout the twenty-two, twenty-three is the end come next week, volumes. It's a really sweet manga, and I highly recommend it.
Vampire Knight is another great manga, an anime series in Japan with two seasons. A school with a Night Class and a Day Class, but it wouldn't be called Vampire Knight without the Night Class being full of gorgeous vampires. There are six volumes so far, but the series is ongoing. Again, another series I highly recommend.
Absolute Boyfriend is a series I never thought I would like, so I hadn't picked it up until recently. Contrary to what I thought of it at first, it's actually pretty interesting. A girl meets up with this odd guy who gives her a website. She goes to it and fills out a survey of what she'd like in a guy, picks all of the choices, and sends it in to get the "Absolute Boyfriend" on a trial basis for a few days. When the guy gets there, he's naked, a humanoid robot, and needs to be awakened with a kiss. Once she does this, he wakes up, but when the time period ends, she hasn't sent him back yet and ends up in a world of trouble. It goes on from there. Otherwise, this series is pretty good, though I've only read the first book in the six volume series, but I still think it's pretty good. I'll give more information once I read through more of it.
I'll leave it at that for now. On to the Shounen manga!
Shounen07-Ghost is first to mind. I have an odd adoration of that manga. A boy is in a military academy when he hears things he shouldn't from one of the higher ups. He's arrested but breaks out and escapes to this church where he's given sanctuary. It's only three volumes so far, but it's already piqued my interest.
There are more, but I'm exhausted, so that's it for now. If anyone read through all of that, you get cookies.
